Isaiah BET. JUN 1861 - AUG 1862 
Civil War - Union Army, Pennsylvania. He before 1866 Aledo, Illinois. 
He resided 1880 in Providence, Hardin Co, Iowa. 
He 1885 Nebraska, in a covered wagon.  
Isaac Isaiah Hallsted was born in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, in 1835 
(1900 census says 1833, see below), third of five children of Michael and Lydia Hallsted. 
Isaiah married Mary Margaret Robbins in Illinois and with her, 
had children Mary Ellen (1861), Isaac "Ike" (1863), 
and Samuel Sylvester (1864). Mary Margaret died in 1866. 
Isaiah served in the Union Army from June 1861 until honorably discharged in Aug. 1862. 
In 1909 Isaiah began drawing a soldier's pension of $30.00, paid quarterly.  

In 1870, Isaiah married Elizabeth DeBorde Partridge, 
who had sons Zack and Amos from her first marriage. 
They had five more children -- Levi, Andrew, Joseph, George, and EveLine. 
They moved to Dawes County in the summer of 1885 in a covered wagon. 
They spent their first Nebraska winter living with son Ike on his homestead 
about 14 miles south of Chadron on the Table. 
Isaiah found his own place a few miles farther south in the 
spring and began farming. This farm is still owned by Keith Gregory, 
grandson of EveLine. The children attended Prairie Home School in a 
building a short distance east of the present structure.
Mail was received at Esther Postoffice, two miles west of the home.  

In 1996, my mother Gertrude and I went where Isaiah and Elizabeth are buried 
at the old Antelope Springs Cemetery south of Chadron, Plot #31 and #32. 
To drive there, take Hwy. 385 south about 15 miles from Chadron. 
Turn left (east) on Antelope Road, then south on Long Road. 
Turn right into a farmyard just before Prairie Home Road. 
The lane into the cemetery turns left out of its driveway, and then right, through a planted field. 
Caution: This dirt road can be impassable by automobile when wet. 
At present (1996), there is an old church or school building and an arched gate with a sign 
"Antelope Springs Cemetery," making the cemetery site visible from Long Road.

In the summer of 1885 Isaiah and Elizabeth moved to 
Dawes County, Nebraska, with their five younger children. 
Mary Ellen stayed in Aledo with her husband, Chester Smith.
Isaiah's older boys had already gone west and encouraged their parents to follow. 
Shipping furniture and most hosuehold goods by rail to Rushville, Nebraska, 
the family traveled by wagon to Alliance where Ike met them. 
They spent their first Nebraska winter in Ike's new frame house on his homestead 
about 14 miles south of Chadron on "the Table."

 (Appl   #43262, Cert #26894) on 20 Jan 1864 from Ill.
